Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) said Tuesday on CNN's “Outfront” that President Donald Trump's pardons for the Jan. 6 protesters created a “reserve army of political infantry.” He said it was for the purpose of
Mr. Ruskin said: Pardons are typically used when people are actually innocent or there has been some procedural miscarriage of justice. No one is claiming these people are innocent. He was caught on tape hitting a police officer in the head with a pipe, a baseball bat, and a Confederate battle flag, all of which has been substantiated. Most of them pleaded guilty. Others were convicted. There was no judicial miscarriage of justice. On the contrary, they have enjoyed every benefit of due process. ”
He added, “So the pardon in this case is limited to people who have reformed, who have been rehabilitated and are no longer a threat to public safety. So that's what's missing from this conversation. If… President Trump came forward and said, “We've talked to these people, and they have no intention in the future of attacking police officers in the way that left 140 people bloodied, injured, and hospitalized in Washington, D.C.'' If you say so, they're not like that. We do not intend to attack the rule of law and democratic institutions, we do not intend to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power, we do not intend to be a threat to our communities. 'We haven't heard anything like that. ”
Mr. Raskin added. “Then the question is, why are they being released?” Are they being released as a reserve of MAGA and political foot soldiers acting on behalf of Donald Trump? I think that's what's so troubling to the majority of the American public, who at least rejected the idea of freeing violent criminals and people convicted of seditious conspiracies, which means conspiring to overthrow the government. . ”
