There was a terrifying moment in Pittsburgh when an MLB player was hit in the face by a 99.6 mph fastball.
Tampa Bay Rays’ Amed Rosario was hit by a pitch from rookie flame-thrower Jared Jones and immediately left the game.
Starting batter Jose Siri sprinted toward Rosario, who crouched down and clutched his face, and Siri immediately called for a trainer.

Rosario was able to leave the field under his own power, but trainers were nearby and applied an ice pack to his mouth.
Luckily, the flap on Rosario’s helmet cushioned the blow a little.
Luckily, he didn’t break any bones, but did suffer “facial lacerations.” And the good news is that he isn’t expected to be placed on the disabled list.

Rosario batted fifth and got the second hit by Jones, but the rookie regained his composure and pitched seven innings, allowing just two runs and striking out eight to lead the Buccaneers to a 4-3 victory.
The Rays will be Rosario’s fourth team since making his MLB debut in 2017 as a top prospect with the New York Mets.
He was dealt to the Cleveland Guardians as part of the trade that sent Francisco Lindor to Queens and spent the second half of last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

As of Saturday, Rosario was batting .301 with a .739 OPS while splitting time between the outfield and the infield.
