Anthony Michael Hall exchanged the roots of his comedy for the darker, more mystical roles in Prime Video Reacher Season 3 broke the streamer's record for the most viewed return season.
On the show, he plays Zachary Beck, a wealthy ragporter. The business deal becomes Jack Reacher (Alan Richson)'s latest investigation when a former military operative is sent to Beck's Portland Mansion to find a missing informant. But what we learn in the first handful of episodes is that Beck is a gun runner who has mastered the transport routes that have been handed over by a vessel (Bryan Tee), who lured his son Richard (Johnny Berkchtld) many years ago to assert his control over Beck, and by cutting off his ears.
In the penultimate episode of Reacher Season 3 – Falling on Today's Streamer – McCabe is angry that Beck accidentally allowed two secret agents to slide into his mansion just under his nose, and continues his attempts to clean up his mess after ordering Francis Neeglee (Maria Sten) and others who may be watching his illegal surgery. Nee Glee, her boss, learns of McCabe's plan, that if she escapes the attack and can pay back the black market loan he received from the Russians, Beck and Richard will be buried.
As he lurks over the head of imminent fate, Beck ultimately gives Richard the love and security he has longed for since his rather troublesome and neglected college son – as a child. The result is a heartfelt conversation where Beck tearfully apologises for pushing Richard away and keeping him safe from McCabe, and for making some of Hall's best performances.
The decision maker, who caught up with the actor last week, revealed how becoming a father in 2023 helped him navigate the father-son dynamic. Reacher.
“That's a great arc [creator Nick Santora] He gave me from the book, which is this kind of sad relationship he has with his son. He's like being estranged from his son,” Hall said. I was a father and I knew what it was like to love your son. That was really interesting to me about it. He plays the villain, but he also unfolds in other dynamic developments. ”

According to Hall, he also drew inspiration from his own upbringing when he created the moments he saw between Beck and Lucichard in Episode 7. The actor said he grew up “without” a biological father, noting that he had a “great” stepfather who adopted him. After his stepfather was in the picture and his sister was born, he experienced coming from both a single-parent and nuclear family, but when he felt like Richard, he said there was definitely in his life.
“I was interested in my father. I didn't actually see him until I was about 22. That's a whole other story,” Hall said. “But it was really interesting to be able to delve into your own life and give it to the job. That's one of the things I'm trying to do. So it was a really great role for all these reasons.”
Beck and Richard finally start over, and the latter is always craving? Tune to Reacher The Season 3 finale will be dropped on Prime Video next Thursday (March 26th).
