A jury of nine New Yorkers on Friday awarded former President Trump an $83.3 million verdict for defaming columnist E. Jean Carroll.
Carroll accused Trump in 2019 of sexually assaulting her decades ago, and the jury that will decide how much the former president must pay for denying Carroll's story last week Was chosen. A judge had previously ruled that the denial was defamation.
The verdict, returned by the jury after less than three hours of deliberation, includes three parts.
Trump is seeking $11 million in restitution programs for Carroll, $7.3 million in other damages for emotional distress, and punitive damages aimed at deterring future similar actions by the former presidents. He was ordered to pay $65 million.
