'Reading Rainbow' is making a comeback after almost 20 years with a new host.

A well-known children’s educational program, “Reading Rainbow,” is making a comeback. Mychal Threets, a longtime librarian from Northern California, has been announced as the new host. This is particularly exciting because he’s garnered quite a following on social media.

Threets will present the show’s new episodes, which were revealed in a social media post that expressed enthusiasm about motivating viewers to dive into reading. It mentioned there would be “new episodes, new friends, new projects, and of course… new books!” The buzz is certainly palpable.

While the exact date for the reboot hasn’t been specified, a trailer hints at fresh projects and notable guests, including actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach and dancers Riley Arnold and Ezra Sosa.

Threets had previously stepped down from his librarian role in 2024, prioritizing his mental health, but he hasn’t stepped away from his passion for reading and positivity on platforms like Instagram.

He shared how much “Reading Rainbow” meant to him, saying, “LeVar Burton is my hero.” Threets pointed out that his love for books and being a librarian stems from the inspiration he gained from Burton and the show itself.

Originally airing from 1983 to 2006, “Reading Rainbow” was hosted by LeVar Burton throughout its duration. It holds the distinction of being one of the most-watched PBS shows in classrooms, reaching an impressive number of public television stations.

The show accumulated 26 Emmy awards but concluded in 2006, partly due to fundraising difficulties and the need to update its format to keep pace with emerging technologies.

There are exciting future plans for “Reading Rainbow,” so fans are encouraged to keep checking the website and follow its social media for updates.
