‘Reasonable to Assume’ if Elected Trump Will Become a Dictator

Longtime political commentator Chris Matthews said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that it’s “quite reasonable to assume” that former President Donald Trump would become a dictator if elected.

After discussing former President Lyndon B. Johnson, Matthews added, “This is the polar opposite of Donald Trump, who basically wants to send them to face a firing squad. He wants to put everybody in jail. I can’t believe the way he talks to his opponents. This is really a choice between dictatorship and democracy. We have to make a choice. This election is not just about abortion, it’s about what kind of government do we have. What kind of country do we want to live in? Do we have a dictator who is going to tell the United States Congress not to do anything about the border, not to do anything, leave it to rock and roll, I don’t care if thousands of people pass between now and Election Day, I don’t care if they’re here forever if I win the election?”

He added, “He will tell the Supreme Court that. He is hoping the Supreme Court will give him immunity, and he wants to get it. He is probably counting on immunity in the New York case over hush money. He is probably plotting something behind the scenes to get this to the Supreme Court quickly so that Justice Alito can pull off the incredible coup that he pulled off there against Justice Roberts. Justice Alito is in control. So who knows what will happen with his five justices. I am saying there is a chance that Trump will end up scoring points: ‘I control Congress and the Supreme Court. I am a dictator.’ It is very reasonable to assume that he is heading there.”
