Rebecca Gayheart recently stepped out in public for the first time following the passing of her husband, Eric Dane.
Wearing a beige trench coat, the actress was spotted leaving their Los Angeles home on Friday. She opted for glasses and styled her hair in an updo, also carrying a black leather handbag as she exited the residence.
Dane, known for his role in “Euphoria,” passed away at 53 after battling ALS.
The family released a statement to People, sharing, “It is with deep hearts that we share the news that Eric Dane passed away on Thursday afternoon after a courageous battle with ALS.” They mentioned that he spent his last days surrounded by close friends, his wife, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia, who he cherished immensely.
The tribute continued, highlighting Dane’s transformation into an advocate for ALS awareness during his struggle, pledging to help others facing similar challenges. He will be fondly remembered, they stated.
Dane revealed his diagnosis in April 2025, just a few weeks after his wife, Gayheart, had filed for divorce.
During that time, he expressed gratitude to People magazine, saying, “I’m grateful to have my loving family by my side as I move forward with this next chapter.”
The couple, who wed in 2004, share two daughters, now aged 15 and 14. Gayheart had initiated divorce proceedings in 2018 but chose to call it off last year in light of Dane’s diagnosis. She described her role as “very complex,” emphasizing her commitment to being a positive influence for both Dane and his daughters.
“No matter what, he’s our family and he’s your father,” she shared during an appearance on a podcast in November 2025.
Gayheart was previously in a relationship with Peter Morton before Dane’s death, and was seen supporting her husband during his health struggles. Meanwhile, Dane was in a relationship with Janelle Shirtcliff amid the challenges of ALS.
He reflected on his relationship with Gayheart during a pre-recorded interview, suggesting he felt he contributed to their breakup. “I think Rebecca was more willing to show up and do her part than I was,” he stated, indicating a sense of resignation in his attitude toward their challenges. “I’m like, ‘If there’s a hole in the boat, don’t try to plug it. Just sink the damn thing and find a new hole.'” He also regarded Gayheart as a “fighter.”
Prior to his death, he indicated that despite their separation, “We still love each other deeply,” though they didn’t want to live together anymore.
On Saturday, Gayheart honored Dane by sharing a collection of family photos on Instagram. She also promoted a fundraiser organized by Dane’s friends shortly after his passing, expressing her gratitude with heartfelt emojis.
