Recall of More Than 400,000 Power Banks Reissued by Regulators
The recall concerning over 400,000 power banks has been reissued. This decision came after federal regulators reported further incidents, including a fatal fire and another fire on board a plane.
Roughly 429,000 Casely Power Banks, specifically the 5000mAh portable MagSafe-compatible wireless chargers, are affected by this recall. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) identified these devices due to potential fire and burn hazards.
This recall was initially announced back in April 2025. At that point, Casely had already recorded 51 incidents of chargers overheating, swelling, and igniting while charging mobile phones, resulting in six individuals sustaining minor burns.
Since the original recall, officials have reported an additional 28 incidents, including the tragic death of a 75-year-old woman from New Jersey.
In one distressing case from August 2024, an elderly woman experienced a fire and explosion while charging her phone with a battery resting on her lap, leading to severe burns that ultimately resulted in her passing.
Another troubling incident involved a 47-year-old woman whose power bank caught fire and exploded while she was charging her device on a flight. Fortunately, she only suffered first-degree burns.
The mobile batteries in question can be identified by the model number “E33A” marked on the back and the brand name “Casely” on the front right.
These chargers were sold for prices ranging from $30 to $70 on Casely’s website, as well as Amazon and other online stores between March 2022 and September 2024.
Those in possession of these power banks are advised to stop using them immediately and to reach out to Casely for a free replacement.
The committee has emphasized that power banks should not be disposed of with regular garbage due to the fire hazard they pose. Instead, consumers should contact local hazardous waste centers for proper disposal guidance.
