A specialty chocolate company is broadening its recall of candy bars due to potential salmonella contamination, as reported by the Food and Drug Administration.
Spring & Mulberry, located in Raleigh, North Carolina, originally recalled its mint leaf bars on January 12 after concerns surfaced about possible bacterial contamination. These bars, priced at $10 each or $95 for a variety pack, also feature chocolate mixed with dates.
Recently, the FDA announced that the recall now encompasses a variety of other chocolate flavors. These include Earl Grey, Lavender Rose, Mango Chili, Mixed Berry, Mulberry Fennel, Pakan Date, and Pure Dark Mini.
The chocolate bars are expected to be available online and at selected retail locations starting September 15, 2025. They can be identified by their box colors and lot codes, as mentioned by the company.
Salmonella poses serious health risks, especially for vulnerable groups such as young children, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems. In rare situations, the bacteria can lead to severe infections, endocarditis, or arthritis.
The company is advising anyone experiencing symptoms like fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain to seek medical help promptly.
Thus far, no confirmed illnesses related to the recall have been reported. The recall was initiated following tests that revealed salmonella in finished Mint Leaf products during routine checks by the manufacturer.
The expanded recall is partly due to how tricky it is to detect salmonella, which can appear sporadically.
