In another chilling incident, gunmen targeted a bar in Cancun, resulting in the death of an employee. This shooting marks a troubling trend in popular tourist areas, where criminal gangs are increasingly resorting to violence as part of their extortion tactics and to govern drug sales.
The attack took place at the Royal Eagle (Aguila Real) bar, situated near the bustling 219 area in the heart of Aguila Real. Gunmen arrived on motorcycles and opened fire inside the establishment before fleeing the scene, managing to escape just before law enforcement arrived, as reported by local news source Notikarib.
Only one individual was injured during the assault, a member of the cleaning staff. In a swift response, relatives present at the bar took the injured employee to a nearby hospital, opting not to wait for ambulatory services. Unfortunately, the individual succumbed to injuries shortly after reaching the hospital, despite attempts to save them.
This bar isn’t located in Cancun’s tourist zone; rather, it’s found near the city’s main traffic arteries. Notikarib highlighted that this particular venue has faced attacks on three separate occasions in recent months. While authorities remain tight-lipped regarding crime in Cancun, government officials attempt to project a safe and enjoyable image, yet the region still falls under the influence of criminal groups.
As noted by Breitbart Texas, violence has surged in Cancun as criminal factions linked to rival cartels launch attacks to intimidate business owners into ceasing protection payments and concentrating solely on drug sales.
