Poll Reveals American Sentiment on Greenland Acquisition
A recent survey indicates that only about 20% of American adults back the Trump administration’s initiative to acquire Greenland. As the poll suggests, just 17% of participants expressed support for the idea of the U.S. taking over the Danish territory.
Interestingly, the survey shows a divide along party lines: 40% of Republicans seem to favor the U.S. pursuing Greenland, whereas a mere 2% of Democrats agree. However, when asked about the potential deployment of U.S. troops to occupy Greenland, there’s more agreement. In total, 71% of those surveyed, which includes 60% of Republicans and 89% of Democrats, believe this would not be a wise move.
FOX News Digital has attempted to get comments from the White House regarding these findings.
Speaker Johnson Remarks on Greenland Acquisition Plans
The same poll indicated that 66% of American adults are concerned that pursuing Greenland could damage relationships with NATO and other European countries.
This poll was conducted online from January 12 to 13 with responses from 1,217 adults and carries a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump emphasized the importance of Greenland for national security, suggesting, “The United States needs Greenland for national security purposes.” He further noted that possessing Greenland would enhance NATO’s effectiveness.
During discussions, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Greenlandic Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeld are scheduled to meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance at the White House.
Meanwhile, Greenland’s prime minister stated that if given the choice between remaining part of Denmark or becoming an American territory, they would opt for Denmark.
