Beau Bichette in Talks with Boston Red Sox
Beau Bichette, the shortstop who recently hit free agency after the Toronto Blue Jays’ World Series run, has reportedly had a significant Zoom discussion with the Boston Red Sox.
As noted by Ali Alexander from 7News in Boston, “Things went well on both sides,” during their meeting, which took place amid the MLB Winter Meetings in Orlando, Florida. Alexander mentioned that Bichette was left with a positive impression of the Red Sox, indicating their serious intentions regarding free agency.
Bichette, 27, has emerged as one of the most sought-after free agents this offseason. He completed the 2025 season with impressive stats: a .311 batting average, .840 OPS, 18 home runs, 44 doubles, and 94 RBIs across 139 games. After a knee injury sidelined him for nearly two months, he returned just in time for the World Series, hitting .348 with six RBIs during the final stretch.
Notably, Bichette delivered a standout moment by hitting a game-winning, three-run homer against Shohei Ohtani in Game 7 of the World Series, showcasing the talent that runs in his family.
If he were to join the Red Sox, it would complicate the infield situation, as Trevor Story currently occupies the shortstop position. However, with star third baseman Alex Bregman also hitting free agency, there could be possibilities for reshuffling the infield. Bichette had even transitioned to second base during the World Series.
The Red Sox are also considering other free agents, including former Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, as they look to bolster their infield options.
This offseason, the Red Sox have shown a sense of urgency to strengthen their roster, particularly around their ace Garrett Crochet and promising outfielder Roman Anthony. A trade for former Yankees pitcher Sonny Gray has already added some drama to the offseason and heightened tensions between these AL East rivals.
Bringing in Bichette would likely stir things up even more within the division.
