Juan Soto and the Red Sox Pursuit
Juan Soto recently shared that the Boston Red Sox were very much in the running to sign him in free agency this offseason, more than many had anticipated. He remarked that he had a great experience with the team, saying, “It was so much fun. They showed a lot of love.” He expressed genuine appreciation for their efforts, noting, “I think it was really impressive.”
Reports indicated that the Red Sox had extended a 15-year, $700 million offer to Soto before he ultimately opted for a $765 million deal with the Mets, who had just signed him after a season with the Yankees.
While the two New York teams, the Mets and Yankees, were considered the top contenders for Soto, he mentioned that the Red Sox were also very serious about securing him. “Yes, they were really there, they were at the top of the list,” he stated. “They were pushing really hard, but at the end of the day I made a decision.”
These comments come during what has been a challenging period for Soto, as he struggles to find his form. His difficulties were highlighted following a poor series against the Yankees, which left him under scrutiny. Recently, he had some issues, reportedly not leaving the box on consecutive days.
Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay mentioned on his radio show that Soto appeared “very, very, very unhappy” while in the Mets clubhouse. On that same day, a report from NJ.com suggested that the Mets’ management was concerned about Soto’s apparent lack of enthusiasm for his new team.
