HGTV’s “Rehab Addict” Canceled Following Racial Slur Incident
HGTV has decided to cancel “Rehab Addict,” a show featuring Nicole Curtis, after footage emerged of her using a racial slur while on set. The clip, which surfaced recently, was released just as the show was slated for a ninth season debut.
An HGTV spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that the program has been taken down from all of the network’s platforms. They expressed concern over the “offensive racial comments” made during filming, stating that such language is not only harmful but runs counter to the values HGTV upholds.
“We remain committed to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion in our content and workplace,” the representative noted.
In response, Curtis issued an apology, expressing her gratitude for the twelve years spent with HGTV and emphasizing her focus on family and community over her career at this time. She mentioned that her primary concern now lies with those who truly understand her character.
She clarified, “The word in question is unacceptable and has never been part of my vocabulary. I apologize to everyone.” Curtis added that as a mom, her family must come first, especially since she has been “unplugged” from the entertainment industry lately.
Reflecting on her life changes since she gained fame, Curtis advised that prioritizing family over career pursuits is crucial. She recalled how, during the initial filming of her show, her son was still in school, and she wasn’t driven by the desire for fame. She simply wanted to provide a stable life for her children, having worked in various jobs before finding success.
There were moments, she admitted, when she felt it might have been better to continue working in less glamorous roles rather than sacrificing family time for financial gains. “Whatever it is, I can’t let anything, not even a paycheck, come between me and my family time,” she concluded, reflecting on the lessons she’s learned throughout her journey.
