Former Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said he doesn’t know whether former President Trump’s recent comments about black voters are racist.
“I don’t know. I remember President Trump in 2016 going, ‘What the hell do you have to lose?'” Priebus said on ABC’s “This Week” at the Black Conservative League annual meeting. in response to a question about whether Trump’s comments were correct. Gala was racist.
“And if you look at the polls today, the latest polls in black communities in seven swing states were about 22 percent,” he added.
Priebus responded to President Trump’s remarks Friday, saying the four criminal charges have increased his support because Black Americans understand what it means to be victims of discrimination. His comments were quickly condemned as “racist” by black leaders and the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
“I was indicted for nothing, for nothing,” Trump told the audience. “And a lot of people said that’s why black people like me, because black people have been so hurt and discriminated against. In fact, they saw me as discriminated against. It was very surprising, but maybe there’s something there.”
President Trump also addressed a mugshot of himself taken to a crowd in connection with an election-tampering incident in Fulton County, Georgia, on Friday.
“When I took my mug shot in Atlanta, that mug shot was number one,” President Trump said. “You know who accepted it more than anyone else? The black population.”
Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile pointed to President Biden’s past comments about why black voters should support President Biden over President Trump when Priebus talks about the former president’s comments. It rebelled when I tried.
“Reince, this isn’t a conversation about who has the record or not, okay? Because we know Donald Trump’s track record. This is about the future, and Donald Trump What he said was a racist metaphor. And basically going up to a black person and saying, “Oh, you don’t like the fact that I have 91 convictions?” is insulting and humiliating. Don’t you want to see this photo? ” she said.
“No, it’s not. We want freedom, justice and equality just like everyone else,” she added.
Priebus said he disagreed with Brazil’s opinion.
“Wait a second. I don’t — just for the record, I don’t disagree. These things that are being said don’t help. They’re distracting. It’s not him. “I think it’s because he’s trying to entertain himself,” Priebus replied.
“I disagree. But what I’m seeing is the fact that 22 percent of black voters in the United States like what he stands for and what he stands for, and they like him as a candidate. The facts are also facts. So that’s what you have to do and your side will have to deal with,” he added.
President Trump faces a total of 91 criminal charges, spanning four state and federal criminal indictments. He has repeatedly said the incidents were politically motivated and has maintained his innocence in each case.
