Religious Easter egg designs from National Guard children will not be accepted at the 2024 White House art event Celebrating National Guard Families.
In addition to the annual Easter Egg Roll, the White House celebrates Easter with an art competition. The contest flyer states that Easter egg design entries “must not contain questionable content, religious symbolism, overtly religious themes, or partisan political statements.”
“As part of the White House Easter tradition, American egg farmers have proudly presented intricately decorated commemorative Easter eggs to the first ladies of the United States for nearly 50 years. In 2021, the White House “We expanded on a long-standing tradition by displaying Easter eggs designed by youth on the east colonnade of the White House,” the flyer said. “On behalf of First Lady Jill Biden, the National Guard Adjutant General is inviting young people from National Guard families across the United States and all U.S. territories to submit artwork inspired by the theme ‘Celebrating Military Families.’ ”
Children are asked to draw pictures of their own lives on eggs. “Chosen designs representing the unique experiences and stories of National Guard children will be brought to life in real chicken eggs by talented egg artists from across the country and displayed at the White House this Easter and Passover season. “will be done,” the ad says.
Furthermore, “content that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred, or harm against any group or individual, or that promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or age” is prohibited for children. It cannot be used in educational settings.
Children will draw several selected designs on actual eggs, which will be displayed at the White House.
