Children of National Guard members are prohibited from submitting religious Easter egg designs to the 2024 White House art event Celebrating National Guard Families.
The art contest is part of the White House’s Easter traditions, including the annual Easter Egg Roll. The contest flyer states that Easter egg design submissions “must not contain questionable content, religious symbolism, overtly religious themes, or partisan political statements.”

“On behalf of First Lady Jill Biden, the National Guard Adjutant General is inviting young people from National Guard families across the United States and all U.S. territories to submit artwork inspired by the theme ‘Celebrating Military Families.’ The flyer continues.

Children are asked to design eggs that represent their own lives. “Selected designs representing the unique experiences and stories of National Guard children will be brought to life in real chicken eggs by talented egg artists from across the country this Easter and Passover season,” the flyer states. It will be displayed at the White House in 2020.”
Additionally, children are prohibited from posting “any content that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual, or that promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or age. ” may not be advertised in the design.
The chosen design will be painted by an artist on a real egg and displayed at the White House.

The White House announced Thursday that the annual Easter Egg Roll will continue to follow the “EGGucation” theme.
“First Lady Jill Biden, who has been a teacher for more than 30 years, continued the ‘EGGucation’ theme at the event, transforming the South Lawn and Ellipse into a school community filled with fun and educational activities for children of all ages. ” reads a statement from the White House. An estimated 40,000 people are expected to attend Monday’s annual event.

In addition to the egg roll and Easter egg hunt, the event will also include a physical “EGGucation” (PE) zone, a schoolhouse activity area, a reading corner, a field trip to the farm, a picture day, and a snack tent. . The Schoolhouse Stage on the south lawn will feature children’s entertainment, including “educational acts and performances.”
