Remote Scottish Island Handa hiring manager for $31K a year

A remote, uninhabited Scottish island is looking for a “manager” to provide accommodation and earn $31,000 a year.

The Scottish Wildlife Trust is recruiting rangers for Handa Island, one of Europe's most important seabird breeding colonies.

Located off the west coast of Sutherland, the island has dramatic cliff views and is accessed by an on-demand pedestrian ferry from Tarbet.

Accommodations will be provided for this role for the duration of the contract. This role is also available to couples who plan to share roles and live together.

The plan includes weekly trips to the remote village of Scourie on the mainland for laundry, banking and shopping.

According to job postings, Handajima rangers will be responsible for “efficiently managing” the beautiful remote island.

The successful applicant will be responsible for organizing the work program and team of volunteers. They will also be responsible for caring for Handa's wildlife and its 8,000 annual visitors.

There are no permanent residents on the island, so this is the perfect opportunity for those who are happy to live away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

No specific qualifications are required for this role, but a good knowledge of marine and terrestrial natural history is beneficial.

A current driver's license and access to a vehicle are also required.

The position is a six-month fixed contract starting in March with a salary of $31,000.
