Nationwide Protests Against ICE Following Minneapolis Incident
This weekend, large crowds of protesters gathered in major cities across the U.S., participating in demonstrations against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These protests were organized by a coalition primarily made up of left-leaning groups and dubbed the “ICE Out for Good” coalition.
The coalition, which includes the group Indivisible—known for its “No Kings” protests against former President Trump in 2025—has been spearheading a “Weekend of Action.” They organized over 1,000 events nationwide starting Saturday.
These protests stemmed from the recent death of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, who died after a confrontation with ICE agents when she allegedly attempted to run over an officer, according to federal authorities.
Leah Greenberg, co-executive director of Indivisible, expressed deep concern, stating, “Renee Nicole Good was a wife, mother of three, and community member. People like her, along with many others impacted by ICE violence, should still be here.” She emphasized that it’s time to hold the system accountable for its actions.
In response to the ongoing tension, Minneapolis Mayor has requested state involvement in the investigation related to the shooting incident and has openly criticized Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Greenberg continued, “This weekend, people across the country are gathering to grieve and demand accountability from a system that has operated without consequences for far too long. ICE violence is real; it’s about individual lives, families, and the future.” She insisted that silence is not an option anymore.
On Saturday, some protests escalated, resulting in clashes with law enforcement. For instance, in Austin, police arrested a few demonstrators amid increasing tensions. Similar confrontations occurred in Los Angeles, where protesters gathered near an ICE detention center.
In Los Angeles, police issued dispersal orders as some demonstrators refused to leave the area. Video footage captured several individuals being taken into custody that evening.
The Trump administration has continually maintained that ICE operations focus on criminal illegal immigrants. Vice President J.D. Vance pointed out that many arrests made in Minnesota included individuals with serious criminal histories, including child rapists and murderers.
Vance stressed the importance of arresting and deporting these individuals for maintaining national security. He argued that misleading narratives about the issue could harm law enforcement efforts overall.
