Rep. Al Green labels DHS Secretary Mullin as 'racist' during committee meeting

House Committee Meeting Escalates Tensions

During a recent House committee meeting, Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) was recorded confronting the Department of Homeland Security, with Rep. Markwayne Mullin labeling the department as “racist.” This heated exchange unfolded as they discussed the department’s funding.

In a moment of confrontation, Green repeatedly instructed Mullin to “shut up,” visibly shocking the Homeland Security Secretary, who responded, “Did I tell you to shut up?”

The atmosphere grew chaotic as Green insisted that nobody could call him a racist. Mullin, remaining calm, reiterated to Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.), the committee’s chairman, that he wouldn’t tolerate such accusations.

After denying any inappropriate remarks, Green again urged Garbarino to intervene and silence him. Following this, the Speaker of the House intervened, calling for a pause in the proceedings.

Green has previously garnered attention for his controversial comments, notably being banned from President Donald Trump’s prime-time address for two consecutive years. Recently, he also lost the Democratic primary runoff for Texas’ 18th Congressional District to newcomer Rep. Christian Menefee.
