Rep. Anna Paulina Luna accuses Whitney Fox of causing harassment campaign against her

A Republican congresswoman from Florida who was called a “threat to democracy” by her opponent claimed her Democratic opponent's “irresponsible statements” have led her to suffer a crazy harassment campaign.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, who represents Florida's 13th district, said her personal information has been exposed and she has received threatening letters at her home. According to a lengthy post from X on Saturday.

“Violence occurs when we label people as a threat to democracy and then try to dehumanize and lie about them,” wrote Luna, a staunch supporter of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Luna did not mention his Democratic opponent, Whitney Fox, by name in his post.

Foxx, a former Pinellas County transportation official who has made reproductive rights a central focus of her campaign, allowed supporters to use the comments section of her campaign's social media pages to publicly leak personal information about the lawmaker, Luna said.

The commenter also used social media pages to encourage and solicit others to send “threatening packages” to Luna's home in St. Petersburg, Florida, deputies alleged.

Screenshots of the threatening comments shared by the lawmaker showed the poster had Luna's address and was encouraging others to send him “love letters or something.”

“The fact that this has continued for weeks is not only abhorrent, it's shameful,” Luna wrote.

“The fact is, FL-13 is not a winnable district for Democrats and has never been winnable, but irresponsible rhetoric and attempts to make the district believe otherwise has led to this.”

The congressman claimed he was one of the “most targeted” members of Congress for violence, and also alleged that anonymous “left-wing Democratic organizations” supporting his opponent had sent him sexually harassing and anti-Semitic text messages.

Luna said he contacted local police on Friday and also notified the FBI, which has launched an investigation.

Pinellas County Sheriff's Office spokesman Deputy Jamie Miller said the department received a harassment complaint from Luna but declined to comment further, citing an ongoing investigation.

This isn't the first time Luna has faced election threats: During the 2021 campaign, he filed a restraining order against one of his rivals in the 2021 Republican primary, accusing them of plotting to kill him.

Fox, Luna and the FBI did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
