Congressman Brian Babin (R-TX) recently pointed out a new investigation by Peter Schweitzer, a senior contributor at Breitbart News. The work, titled *The Invisible Coup: How American Elites and Foreign Powers Use Immigration as a Weapon*, backs his proposal to address what he sees as a loophole in birthright citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
In Schweitzer’s book, released on January 20, he presents troubling instances of how foreign governments and illegal immigrants are undermining U.S. governance and culture. He particularly emphasizes the impact of Chinese elites, who are allegedly taking advantage of America’s birthright citizenship policies tied to birth tourism.
According to Schweitzer, as reported by the New York Times, the number of Chinese individuals coming to the U.S. to give birth has surged significantly over the past 15 years. He estimates that “at least 750,000, and perhaps up to 1.5 million,” Chinese-born individuals are now U.S. citizens due to being born in the country, though they are largely unaware or disconnected from American life as they grow up in China.
“It’s likely that over a million Chinese citizens have gained U.S. citizenship through birth here, yet many lack any genuine connection or loyalty to our country,” Schweitzer wrote, highlighting that these individuals can participate in U.S. elections and sponsor family visits to the country.
In a recent social media update, Babin shared a quote from *The Invisible Coup*, pointing out how immigration policies are being manipulated:
“Birthright citizenship is being abused. Birth tourism has created more than 1 million paper citizens with no real ties to America,” Babin stated. “It’s time to pass my bill and affirm President Trump’s executive orders. The 14th Amendment was never intended for this purpose.”
The proposed legislation, known as the “Birthright Citizenship Act,” aims to tackle what Babin describes as misuse of immigration system loopholes.
This bill would cement one of President Trump’s executive directives. It aims to clarify the interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment and address what he refers to as “inherent citizenship.” The directive instructs the federal government to stop recognizing any document that claims U.S. citizenship unless the individual was born to a U.S. citizen or lawful resident, or the mother was lawfully present but temporarily in the U.S. at the time.
Schweitzer’s *The Invisible Coup: How American Elites and Foreign Powers Use Immigration as a Weapon* is published by HarperCollins.
