Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) proposed a law Friday banning foreign enemies from purchasing American farmland, Breitbart News learned exclusively.
“If foreign countries prohibit Americans from purchasing land in their country, we should do the same to them. The Chinese Communist Party is one of the biggest criminals. The CCP has no place in the soil of our country. My land and the Defense Act is a common sense solution to prevent the enemy from owning our farmland,” Gill told Breitbart News in writing.
Gill proposed land and national defense laws. This is a bill that imposes the same restrictions on foreign ownership of US farmland facing Americans when purchasing land in foreign countries such as China.
The USDA reports that foreigners and organizations are interested in 45.85 million acres of American agriculture. Current law does not impose a limit on the amount of private farmland that foreigners can purchase.
USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins told Breitbart News Washington Bureau chief Matthew Boyle that the division is exploring a “federal solution” to stop China from purchasing American farmland.
