Rep. Eric Burleson (R-Missouri) plans to introduce a bill Monday that would repeal the National Firearms Act of 1934.
Mr. Burleson used the X Post to announce his intentions.
The National Firearms Act (NFA) is a federal law that regulates the sale, possession, and transfer of firearms and/or accessories, often referred to as Class III firearms. These include suppressors, short-barreled shotguns, short-barreled rifles, machine guns, and more. In light of the NFA, law-abiding gun owners seeking a suppressor must submit a photo, fingerprints, and pay a $200 federal tax. Perform an enhanced background check and have your accessories registered with the ATF.
The same tedious process applies to short-barreled shotguns and rifles, as well as machine guns.
Burleson on Monday eschewed stopgap solutions and went straight to the roots, calling for the repeal of the NFA, a gun control law passed in response to gun violence by mobs and gangs during Prohibition.
He also remains focused on abolishing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). On November 25, 2024, Breitbart News reported that Burlison told Fox News that the ATF is a “disaster.”
