Cory Mills Faces Tough Primary Challenge
Representative Cory Mills (R-Fla.) finds himself under significant pressure as he prepares for a crucial primary election. His reputation has been marred by various scandals, which may impact his campaign as election day nears.
One notable loss for Mills is the withdrawal of support from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is among the state’s most prominent Republican figures. That’s got to sting, right?
During a recent press conference, DeSantis shared his thoughts about Mills, saying clearly, “I don’t support Cory Mills, and I don’t support him.” Quite the statement.
Mills’ office has not issued any comments following these developments, which is a bit surprising, considering the situation.
A related poll indicates he might need to worry. Many voters in the 7th Congressional District seem to resonate more with his opponent, Ryan Illya. This same poll shows Mills with a narrow lead of about 6 percentage points, but it’s clearly an uphill battle for him.
Apparently, his legal issues aren’t helping, either. Analysts noted that Mills’ support is dwindling and suggested that he has more than just a legal challenge to consider: “As an incumbent with only 28% support, Mr. Mills should already be very concerned.”
Adding to his woes, several members of Florida’s Republican Congressional delegation appear dissatisfied with him. Not ideal for a sitting congressman.
Despite the challenges, Mills has managed to retain some powerful backing. Former President Donald Trump endorsed him earlier this year, calling him “America’s number one patriot and a great advocate.” Well, that might help, although it could be overshadowed by recent controversies.
In the headlines, Mills has been accused of some pretty serious allegations, including stealing courage and even threatening an ex-girlfriend, former Miss United States Lindsay Langston. As if that’s not enough, the Justice Department is reportedly investigating him, though details remain vague about the investigation’s focus.
With Florida’s primary elections just around the corner on Tuesday, early voting has already begun. I guess there’s a lot on the line for Mills—hopefully, for his sake, he knows how to navigate these choppy waters.
