Rep. Gomez says ICE is detaining anyone who is Brown in CNN interview

Gomez Critiques ICE Raids in Los Angeles

Representative Jimmy Gomez, a Democrat from California, expressed concerns about recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions. During an appearance on CNN, he stated that ICE officers appeared to be targeting individuals based on their appearance, specifically citing those who looked like him.

Gomez was responding to questions about an immigrant raid that took place near MacArthur Park in Los Angeles. He noted that the situation reminded him of trips to countries where armed individuals patrolled the streets, suggesting a climate of fear.

He claimed that ICE was not focused on apprehending criminals or members of gangs like MS-13. Instead, he accused them of intimidating the Hispanic community. “They are not chasing criminals,” he said, adding that their efforts seemed directed at people who don’t fit the stereotype of “typical Americans.” He expressed concern that undocumented individuals, regardless of their citizenship status, faced the risk of arrest and imprisonment.

Gomez criticized former President Donald Trump for using California as a backdrop for his views on immigration. He emphasized his commitment to defending immigrant rights, asserting, “I will not bend my knees,” as he aims to push back against the Trump administration.

He further clarified that many people affected by these raids have no criminal history, implying that the focus should not be on arresting innocent individuals. Gomez’s remarks came amidst broader discussions about the treatment of immigrants in the country.

As the situation developed, Fox News Digital reached out to ICE for comment but did not receive an immediate response.

In related discussions, some MSNBC contributors criticized what they described as a radical support base for Trump, suggesting they perceive ICE actions as reminiscent of historical injustices.

The targeted raids in the Westlake area, which has a significant Hispanic population, provoked local outrage. Reports indicated a strong law enforcement presence, including mounted border patrol agents, though it was noted that no arrests had been made during this operation.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, responding to the raid, insisted on discussing the situation with ICE leadership. She expressed her discontent with the actions taken, declaring, “They need to leave now. This is not acceptable.” She later voiced her outrage on social media, calling the events “absolutely outrageous.”
