House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La. scolded Rep. D-Texas Al Green for engaging in “shameful and terrible behavior” during President Donald Trump's speech to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night. A speaker who launched Green from his House room accused lawmakers of “deliberately” violating House rules.
The X speaker's post denounces Green's actions survived an attempt by his party to lead it to the table hours after the resolution denounces Texas Democrats.

Resolution to punish Al Green's punishment clears Dem's lockdown and advances the whole house vote after Trump's speech
In a post on X, Chairman Johnson wrote that Greene was “shameful of the Congressional system” in a protest in Trump's speech. He also urged Democrats to take part in the denunciation vote.
Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash. introduced a resolution punishing Green on Wednesday. Now that it survives that Democrats lead it to the table, the resolution will be heading for the whole house vote today.
The resolution probably wasn't a surprise to Greene. When he was banished from his speech, Green said that he “will be happy to suffer any punishment” that was born from the incident. In fact, Green tweeted Thursday, reminding his followers of the upcoming denunciation vote on X.
There have been multiple resolutions to condemn Green, but Fox News Digital reportedly had been in contact with House GOP leadership over his resolution since Trump's speech ended.

Democrats turn each other over Trump's address stunts
“I think [Green’s protest is] Unprecedented. Certainly in modern times. It wasn't an exciting statement. Chairman Johnson told reporters Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, Greene began screaming after President Trump called the 2024 election “I've never seen it in decades” and promoted the GOP victory.
Johnson warns Greene and asks him to take his seat. As Green refused and continued his protest, the chairman asked the sergeant to remove the Texas Democrats from his room.
“The president said he had an order, but I made it clear that the president had no authority to cut Medicaid,” Green told the press in the hallway outside Trump's speech. He then called on President Trump to “save Medicaid.” This was written on several paddles used in the quiet protests of the Democratic speech.

Rep. Green was the first and only Democrat to actively disrupt the president's speech on Tuesday night. Other Democrats hugged the signs, and many came out of their speeches early.
The rebuking solution, if it passes, does not bring about consequences, rather it acts as a formal denunciation of Green by the house. Other lawmakers faced with criticism include former MP Adam Schiff, former MP Jamal Bowman and Rashida Tribe.
