Georgia Rep. Johnson Calls U.S. “Great Devil” Under Trump
During a recent podcast, Georgia Democratic Representative Hank Johnson described the United States under President Donald Trump as “the great devil.” This comment came up while he was a guest on Dean Obidala’s “The Dean Obidala Show,” where they were discussing the Trump’s administration’s controversial military actions against a suspected drug-trafficking vessel in the Caribbean.
Obidala voiced concerns that these actions are reshaping the global perception of America, likening it to a “Putin-like” regime. Johnson responded by affirming that criticism from global rivals was warranted. “Yes, we are the world’s biggest bullies,” he stated, emphasizing the unchecked power wielded by the U.S. over less powerful nations.
He remarked, “This sends a shocking message to the world that America is, in fact, America. What did they once call us? The Devil’s Great, or something like that? So, America under Trump is proving that that nickname is completely accurate. ‘The Great Devil,’ which is what we became in this country when we became able to start killing people with impunity.”
Interestingly, he referenced the term “Great Satan,” a phrase historically employed to depict the United States as a malevolent force, often associated with Iranian rhetoric.
Johnson continued, criticizing the current state of affairs: “This is truly shocking to the conscience and an affront to our basic humanity. Americans can no longer say we are exceptional when we are killing people like that.”
It’s worth noting that Johnson has a history of making provocative statements. From claiming Guam would “overturn” due to population density to comparing Israeli settlers to “termites,” he often finds himself in the spotlight for his controversial comments. This particular Guam comment created quite a stir back in 2010 during a House Armed Services Committee meeting.
The White House hasn’t responded yet to requests for comments regarding Johnson’s remarks.
