Omar Accuses Noem of Spreading Lies About ICE Arrests
Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, recently called out Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for allegedly disseminating what she described as “lies and propaganda” regarding ICE arrests in her state.
Omar’s comments were triggered by a post from Noem on X, where Noem claimed that federal authorities had apprehended over 10,000 criminal illegal aliens in Minnesota over the past six weeks. She specifically mentioned that 3,000 of these individuals were criminal illegal aliens, causing harm to Americans and children in Minneapolis.
In her response, Omar remarked, “This would be amazing if it weren’t so full of lies and propaganda.” She went on to explain that the only reason Noem has photographs of individuals in jail is that they were already incarcerated. “Stop scaring people with fake PR about criminals in Minneapolis,” Omar expressed, asserting that law-abiding citizens were the ones being arrested in the city.
Fox News Digital reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for a comment but did not receive an immediate response.
Omar, who was born in Somalia and represents a district encompassing much of Minneapolis, has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration’s use of ICE agents during its crackdown on illegal immigration and fraud within the region.
Some critics argue that the recent killing of Renee Good by ICE agents has escalated concerns regarding the agency’s heavy-handed tactics, which they believe aim to intimidate the public.
In response to the fraud scandal that shook Minnesota late last year, Minneapolis and St. Paul have deployed approximately 3,000 federal workers. President Trump had suggested the possibility of invoking the Insurrection Act to address unrest in the state, although he appears to have reconsidered that option recently.
