Wilson Recorded a video The president, who was released on Monday, said his collapse at an event marking Ukraine's Independence Day last week was caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure.
According to attendees at the event, Wilson received CPR treatment after collapsing.
“Fortunately, I was with the Rev. Margaret Kibben and two cardiac surgeons who quickly came to my aid,” he said. Kibben is a former Navy chaplain.
“The doctors, nurses and other medical staff at George Washington University Hospital provided me with excellent care to ensure a speedy recovery. The pacemaker implant has resolved my service issues.”
Wilson said he and his wife are grateful for the hundreds of messages of prayer and prayers he has received from constituents and dozens of Republican, Democratic and senators. He thanked his staff for their “full service and dedication” during his recovery.
“This event will be a vindication of the love and emotion we have received from our constituents,” he said in the video.
Wilson's return comes at a critical time for House Republicans to pass legislation to avert a government shutdown.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), who holds a slim Republican majority, is facing opposition from his own party over a short-term funding deal and pressure from former President Trump to add a citizenship requirement to vote, a bill Democrats have said would not pass and point out that it is already illegal for non-citizens to vote.
