House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) recently opened an investigation into Manhattan Judge Juan Marchan’s daughter Lauren’s work for a political opponent of former President Donald Trump over potential “conflicts of interest.” Fox News Digital report.
Lauren Marchand works for Authentic Campaigns, a progressive political consulting firm that has raised at least $93 million in campaign contributions for two Democratic clients, some of the money coming in through solicitation emails that referenced Trump’s New York criminal trial.
“There is a real possibility that there will be substantial benefits from the prosecution of President Trump.”
Juan Merchan has rejected a request by Trump’s legal team to recuse himself from presiding over the case, even though his daughter’s profession has raised concerns about a conflict of interest.
In May, a jury found Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. The New York case was one of four indictments against the former president.
Jordan addressed Lauren Marchand on Thursday in a letter obtained by Fox News Digital, requesting the information as part of the committee’s “oversight of politically motivated prosecutions.”
“Experts have expressed serious concerns that your father, Judge Marchan, has refused to recuse himself from President Trump’s case, despite your work on behalf of President Trump’s political opponents and the fact that your company, Authentic Campaigns, Inc., may benefit financially from a prosecution and conviction,” Jordan told Lauren Marchan.
Jordan noted that he had previously been “deeply involved in the presidential campaigns of both President Biden and Vice President Harris.”
“At the very least, there is recognition that you and Authentic Campaigns stand to gain significantly from prosecuting President Trump in a forum overseen by your father,” he added.
Jordan demanded that Lauren Marchan turn over “all contracts and invoices” and “all documents and communications” related to the company’s campaign efforts for Biden, Harris and the Democratic National Committee starting in 2023. It also requires all information related to the political campaign that references the New York criminal case against Trump. Finally, Jordan requested all correspondence related to the trial between the consulting firm and Judge Marchan or her staff.
Lauren Marchand is expected to submit the requested information by August 8th.
During the trial, Judge Marchan issued a restrictive gag order banning Trump from speaking about his staff or their families, which also extended to Lauren Marchan. The judge later partially lifted the order, but Trump is still prohibited from speaking publicly about Lauren Marchan, despite the fact that a decision has already been made in the case.
