Representative Lauren Boebert has responded to accusations circulating on social media regarding alleged affairs with three of her staff members, including two women, asserting simply that she is straight.
Boebert, a Republican from Colorado, had previously made headlines in April when she questioned, “why is everybody so horny” in Congress amidst various sex scandals. Now, she is facing a formal ethics complaint filed by a political action committee that has been critical of her for years.
“Well, I’m not a lesbian or bisexual, and I have never, ever been in any inappropriate relationship, nor have I ever been sexually involved with any staff,” she stated in a response to Sources Say News after the allegations broke.
Her office has denounced the claims as “utterly false.”
Under House rules established after the #MeToo movement, members of Congress are prohibited from engaging in sexual relationships with their staff. Recently, there has been a move to extend this prohibition to other types of staffers as well. David Wheeler, the head of American Muckrakers, submitted the complaint last Thursday.
The complaint claims that Boebert had romantic encounters with her former district director Clarice Navarro Ratzlaff, her former chief of staff Jeffrey Small, and current chief of staff Raven Finegan.
Navarro Ratzlaff and Small both left Boebert’s office in 2025, while Finegan remains with her.
Wheeler contends that Boebert’s relationship with Navarro Ratzlaff began in 2021 and continued throughout her time in office. However, Navarro Ratzlaff vehemently denied the allegations, telling the Colorado Times Recorder that the claims are “entirely false, defamatory, and beyond ridiculous. There is absolutely no truth to any part of this claim.”
Wheeler also alleged that their relationship occurred in hotel rooms funded by her campaign and that Navarro Ratzlaff received a $200,000 payment in March of the previous year to keep quiet after threatening to file an ethics complaint.
This complaint is reportedly based on House disclosures and information from unnamed sources, as noted by Wheeler.
The outspoken congresswoman, who is also a mother of four, gained attention in 2023 for a viral incident where she was filmed groping her then-boyfriend Quinn Gallagher, a registered Democrat, during a “Beetlejuice” performance in Denver.
Boebert and Gallagher were removed from the venue for causing a disturbance by vaping and taking pictures in violation of the theater’s policies. Following the incident, Boebert issued an apology and successfully ran for reelection in 2024.
