REP. LISA McCLAIN: Democrats prefer to halt government operations rather than participate in meaningful discussion

Every day, families across America are faced with tough choices about how to manage their budgets. They can’t just raise their credit limits whenever they want or accumulate debt before dealing with their bills.

In Washington, however, some Democrats are seemingly trying to do just that, using the threat of a government shutdown as a political tool.

Let’s set the record straight. Republicans aren’t the ones pushing this country to the edge. We voted to keep the government functioning, while Democrats opted against the same, leaving us in this predicament.

Republicans have accused Democrats of playing with the possibility of a shutdown, holding the government “hostage.”

To clarify, House Republicans did our part over a week ago by passing a straightforward bill to keep the government running until November 21st. There was no divisive language; just a sensible plan to give Congress time to address the ongoing funding issues the American people expect us to tackle.

Interestingly, the Democrats have already supported this same measure 13 times, yet they’re now stalling our progress. Why is that? It seems they’re yielding to pressure from their radical base and, according to reports, even coordinating shutdown strategies with activist groups.

Insider insights point to a division within the Democratic party and reveal Schumer’s struggles on the left.

What this boils down to is this: instead of ensuring that families get WIC benefits or that our military is paid, Democrats are proposing to allocate $1.5 trillion—your tax money—toward their own agenda, which includes radical immigration policies and foreign climate initiatives.

This $1.5 trillion bill also recycles historical investments in rural healthcare and tax cuts that support working families striving for financial stability.

In all honesty, it seems the Democrats are more interested in political theater rather than genuine discussions. They can hold as many press conferences as they wish, but those won’t actually reopen the government. The only way to make progress is through votes in favor of the clean bill supported by House Republicans.

House Republicans have put in the work, looking at every detail of government spending through the appropriate channels, debating, and voting repeatedly. That’s democracy in action.

Our message is pretty straightforward: let’s keep the government running while we wrap up our responsibilities. No tricks, no games. Just responsible governance.

It’s time for Democrats to set aside politics, prioritize America, and join Republicans in voting to keep the government open.
