Democratic Rep. Lloyd Doggett became the first sitting House Democrat to publicly call on President Joe Biden to withdraw from his position as the Democratic presidential nominee following last week’s gaffe.

But the 77-year-old still praised Biden’s performance so far as commander in chief.
Doggett quickly followed up by noting that “many Americans are unhappy with the choice made in this election” and that keeping Biden as the Democratic nominee could pave the way for Donald Trump’s reelection.
“I represent the heart of the district once represented by Lyndon Johnson. Under very different circumstances, Johnson made the difficult decision to withdraw. President Biden should do the same,” he said in a statement.
“My decision to publicly express these strong concerns was not made lightly and does not in any way diminish my respect for all that President Biden has accomplished. Recognizing that, unlike President Trump, President Biden’s first commitment has always been to our country, not himself, I look forward to him making the painful and difficult decision to withdraw.”
Doggett is serving 15 years in prison.Number In his second year as a member of the House of Commons, he became the first member of his party to say publicly what other MPs have been quietly hinting at behind closed doors since last week’s debate and even before.
Democrats have previously argued that Republican claims about Biden’s apparent advanced age and cognitive deficiencies were largely the result of GOP lies and manipulation, but after watching the first debate, the same Democrats who insisted that the 81-year-old Biden could successfully lead the country now seem to agree that Biden is “not in good health.”
After the debate, Biden had to be helped by his wife, Jill Biden, off the stage and down the stairs, while Trump walked confidently down the stairs unaided.
“Vote Democrat no matter who wins” Democrats have reverted to the “anyone but Trump” argument, as they did in 2016 when Hillary Clinton faced off against Trump. Many left-leaning social media users claim they would vote for Biden over Trump, even if the current president was hospitalized and on a ventilator.
Biden’s performance, which former Democratic President Barack Obama described as a “terrible” debate performance, has caused great panic among his supporters and on the left, raising many questions about whether the 81-year-old Biden is the best candidate for the Democratic Party.
Doggett’s statement was made public by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). MSNBC She said Tuesday that she thinks it’s a “legitimate question” whether Biden’s awkward performance was “just an episode or a symptom.”
Meanwhile, Biden is expected to be effectively selected as the party’s presidential nominee in the coming weeks ahead of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August.
