Rep. Luna Pushes for Swalwell’s Expulsion Amid Misconduct Allegations
Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) is taking steps to expel Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) from the House. She argues that, in light of recent allegations of sexual misconduct and assault, Swalwell has no place representing the public.
Diving into the situation on “Saturday in America,” Luna expressed the need for accountability, labeling Swalwell’s actions as “unacceptable,” especially as he continues to hold office while dealing with these accusations.
Allegations surfaced when a former employee accused Swalwell of sexually assaulting her while intoxicated. Following her claims, three additional women have also come forward, speaking out about the circumstances.
Luna insists that Swalwell should not remain in office while facing these serious charges. She plans to introduce a disciplinary motion next week, emphasizing that no public servant should be funded by taxpayers amidst such scandals.
As she puts it, “If Democrats want to protect this kind of behavior, they should be ready to face consequences.” She has also encouraged anyone claiming to be a victim to come forward, asserting that they deserve a platform for their voices.
In response, Swalwell has vehemently denied the allegations. He described them as “completely false” and vowed to fight back against them. He stated that he finds himself in an unfortunate situation, yet he intends to uphold his position amidst such claims.
“I hate to be the one watching these events unfold, but this has indeed become a troubling situation,” Luna remarked.
Swalwell, who is also running for governor of California, has begun encountering calls from individuals within his own party urging him to step down. However, he remains resolute in defending himself against these accusations.
In a video released, Swalwell addressed the accusations directly, stating, “Those are completely false. They didn’t happen. They never happened. And I’m going to fight them with everything I have.”
