Rep. Mace Seeks to Remove Rep. McIver After ICE Facility Riot

Congressional Tension Over Assault Charges

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is taking swift action after Rep. Lamonica McIver faces federal assault charges linked to a chaotic incident at an immigration detention center.

Mace has proposed a resolution to expel McIver from the House following her involvement in the fray at the Newark facility, as reported by multiple sources.

Mace commented on the situation, stating:

On May 9th, McIver not only broke the law, but attacked those who defend it. Assaulting Homeland Security and ICE agents isn’t just outrageous; it’s a crime. If any regular American acted like this, they’d be arrested. McIver seems to think her congressional status grants her immunity from the law, but that’s simply not the case. She deserves the maximum prosecution possible.

The incident reportedly took place at the Delaney Hall ICE facility, where McIver, along with other officials, sought to oversee operations. These officials, including Councillors Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (D), now face various charges including assault and trespassing, with Baraka even being arrested for criminal trespass.

Footage from the event reveals a heated confrontation involving McIver wearing a striking red blazer.

In her defense, McIver accused ICE agents of instigating the conflict. She argued that the charges against her are politically motivated, aiming to misrepresent her actions and criminalize her oversight efforts.

In a recent chat with media outlets, she labeled the accusations as “absurd,” emphasizing the routine nature of her presence at the facility, insisting that her mission was to collaborate with colleagues and not to engage in any unlawful activity.

Meanwhile, in a social media update regarding her push for McIver’s expulsion, Mace asserted that being a member of Congress does not excuse illegal behavior. She reiterated that no one is above the law, not even McIver, describing the incident as a serious misuse of power and questioning McIver’s fitness for Congress.
