Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday threatened to invoke a privileged resolution this week to impeach President Biden over his handling of border security, describing it as a “permanent invasion of the United States.”

Greene said she considered invoking the resolution on Monday but decided to talk to House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, first.

“I can force a vote this week,” Greene told reporters, “but I decided to go and speak to Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, which I was going to do tonight, and I actually voted for Johnson.” [who] Claim you support Trump and ask if you’re going to do anything about it.”

Greene said she plans to speak about her own impeachment resolution during the Republican Party’s closed-door conference this week.

Biden is said to be finalizing plans to restrict immigration as part of a crackdown on the US-Mexico border.

The move comes as President Biden plans to issue an executive order to crack down on illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border. The order is expected to halt asylum requests at the border if the average number of daily encounters at ports of entry reaches 2,500.

“When are you going to impeach Joe Biden?” Greene asked. “I have the articles of impeachment and the privilege resolutions ready, and I’m happy to force everybody here to vote, because that’s what we should do.”

“Joe Biden will issue a stupid executive order on Wednesday announcing plans for a permanent invasion of America and putting in place weekly restrictions. Come on, guys. Come on in.”

She slammed reports showing that more than 350,000 asylum applications filed by migrants since 2022 have been rejected by the U.S. government because the applicants did not have criminal records or were deemed not a threat to the United States.

“So, you know what? Republicans need to be courageous. They need to learn that this is our country, this is our America, and that’s gone, because Democrats are going to put every single one of their political opponents in jail.”

If Greene were to invoke the resolution on Tuesday or Wednesday, it would force a vote within two days of the legislation, likely first taking a procedural vote on a motion to refer or shelve the measure. This would be procedurally similar to what happened with the privilege resolution that Rep. Boebert (R-Colo.) introduced last June to impeach Biden, and also with the resolution she introduced last month to oust Johnson.

The vote could come immediately after Greene’s resolution is invoked, but it could also be postponed until later that day, the next day, or until the House reconvenes next week, as the House is leaving town on Wednesday to send a congressional delegation to the Normandy Senate Memorial Day. If the motion to suspend or refer is defeated, the House would immediately vote on a special resolution to impeach President Biden.

At this point, it seems unlikely that there will be the votes to impeach Biden.

Greene said she would force impeachment if Johnson did not move to impeach Biden.

“If he says he’s not going to introduce an impeachment resolution, I’ll just drop it on the floor,” Greene said.

“And we can vote and know where everybody stands. So I’m angry, I’m angry… People in my hometown are angry. Everyone across this country is outraged. We don’t want a banana republic. What we want is an actual legitimate government. What we want is a real justice system. We don’t have that.”
