A Real Spiritual Conflict in America
Rep. Mark Harris from North Carolina, a former senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Charlotte, spoke about what he describes as a significant spiritual struggle currently unfolding in the U.S.
During a discussion with host Mike Slater, he noted that this theme has been part of his dialogue for quite some time. However, it’s now entering broader conversations, particularly after a series of violent incidents. He referenced Irina Zalzka’s remarks about Charlie Kirk’s political landscape.
Slater expressed enthusiasm about the discussion, saying, “Welcome to the party! I love it… This isn’t just about guns. It’s more about mental health issues. It’s about the mind and the spirit.” He emphasized the growing recognition of spiritual elements in conversations surrounding societal issues.
Harris concurred, describing some individuals as so lost that they become vulnerable to darker influences. “This is a demonic issue for sure,” he said. “There’s no doubt in my mind that what we’re witnessing includes both possession and oppression by evil forces.” He urged listeners to pay attention to how behaviors can create pathways for such influences.
He identified substance abuse as a clear example of this vulnerability. “These issues often impact mental health, opening the door to negative spiritual forces,” he remarked. Harris added that acknowledging mental illness requires a balanced approach—one that promotes treatment rather than simple affirmation of the condition. “When we fail to recognize and address mental health, that’s when harm can occur,” he noted.
“We need to be aware and acknowledge the troubling reality we face today,” Harris concluded, urging action grounded in both Biblical principles and natural law.
