Democratic Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal of Washington state tried to politicize California's devastating wildfires, but quickly faced backlash on social media.
Firefighters are struggling to extinguish wildfires in the Los Angeles area that have spread rapidly due to strong winds since Monday. More than 5,000 homes and businesses have been destroyed and at least 10 people have already died.
“That's when someone's life goes up in flames because of your support, you ignorant idiot.”
In a social media post on Thursday, Jayapal wanted to use the natural disaster to appeal to people about global warming.
“Corporations got us into this mess, but even they can't escape the devastating reality of climate change,” Jayapal wrote. who added it Video of McDonald's restaurant destroyed by California wildfires.
Critics quickly accused her of seeming to shift the blame for the fires onto businesses.
“Yes, because corporations provided jobs for all the homeowners. And some of those homes were built by corporations, and corporations supplied a lot of the building materials. What a stupid post. I guess.” answered Brit Hume of Fox News.
“You're an idiot. As this ratio proves, anyone with an IQ of 1 or above knows this has nothing to do with climate change and everything to do with Democratic incompetence and the fact that elections have been held for far too long. I understand that it has something to do with the awakening of DEI policies that have been failing in the district.” answered donald trump jr.
“For a member of Congress to say something like this, he must be a psychopath in some sense, right?” answered Tim Carney of the American Enterprise Institute said.
“I'm so ignorant about this post that I don't know where to start.” said Fox Business host Charles Payne.
“It was probably the small business owner who owned that @McDonalds (there are an estimated 14,300 stores in the U.S., 93 percent of which are our neighbors and the community coaching our kids in Little League. It is a franchise operation owned by the people). noticed Journalist Sarena Zito.
“Most McDonald's are franchises run by small business owners with slim profit margins. It's like every time you cheer someone's life goes up in flames, you ignorant idiot.” added Mark Thiessen, FOX News Contributor.
Jayapal was similarly criticized for praising the passage of a minimum wage increase in Seattle without mentioning the unintended consequences of such policies.
