Rep. Riley Moore: Legal Migration Is More Problematic than Illegal Migration

Concerns Over Immigration and Job Market Impact

Representative Riley Moore (R-West Virginia) recently discussed immigration, expressing that the way current visa programs are structured can be detrimental to American workers. He told Breitbart News that these policies seem to be tilting the job market in favor of foreign contract workers, leaving many everyday Americans at a disadvantage.

Moore shared his views on the growing dissatisfaction among his colleagues regarding immigration practices, suggesting that there is a shift in perspective. He pointed out how certain white-collar visa programs allow companies to hire foreign staff for positions that American citizens often seek, which, in his opinion, creates an unfair competition.

“It’s as if American workers are the only ones who must compete domestically with talent from across the globe. That’s just not right,” he stated. He further emphasized the importance of citizenship and suggested that Americans should have the primary opportunity to benefit from the country’s economic growth.

A small faction of Republican leaders, including Vice President J.D. Vance, are beginning to speak out about the adverse effects of legalized immigration on families. Polls reveal a notable public resistance to legal immigration, despite a general sympathy for immigrants.

Moore brought attention to various visa programs that allow mid-level executives to bring in foreign workers, often at the expense of skilled American graduates. He mentioned that these programs currently employ approximately 1.5 million foreign nationals in jobs that could otherwise go to U.S. graduates.

“The H-1B visa program is being exploited in ways that most people can’t even imagine,” he added, referring to the misuse of visa applications by large corporations for various roles such as computer programming and accounting.

He highlighted a troubling case with Microsoft, where the CEO fired 3,200 employees only to seek thousands of H-1B visas shortly after, indicating an effort to replace those American workers with foreign staff.

Breitbart News has reported extensively on how some foreign executives take advantage of visa programs, often leading to job losses for American professionals. This includes actions that resemble embezzlement and self-dealing related to complex visa rules.

Moore suggested that Republicans could gain traction in elections by sharpening their focus on public worries about job security and wages. Drawing from his own background as a skilled laborer, he emphasized the need to connect with everyday workers on these issues.

While the Trump administration made strides to address illegal immigration and proposed measures to limit the entry of visa workers, the number of legal immigrants entering the country has not significantly decreased.

Moore also mentioned that he is awaiting a report from the Department of Labor on the impacts of the H-1B visa program on American workers. He expressed frustration over the delay, underlining the need for timely information to better understand the situation.

He concluded by asserting that gaining insight into these dynamics could perhaps change public perception and lead to a more honest discussion about the implications of current immigration policies.
