Mayoral Debate Disrupted by Technical Issues

A recent mayoral debate organized by the Housing Action Coalition and Streets For All took a chaotic turn on Monday night, becoming an online fiasco filled with tech glitches that hindered the livestream. This debate, titled “Shaping Los Angeles: A Debate About the Future of LA,” was promoted as an essential early event in the 2026 mayoral race.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. The debate kicked off about 15 minutes late but soon descended into confusion. Viewers encountered audio dropouts and video freezes, making it nearly impossible to follow candidates’ responses.

As the tech woes mounted, frustration spilled over on social media. “Please fix the audio,” one viewer pleaded.

A commenter quipped, “Did you just forget to troubleshoot?” Some even humorously compared the audio issues to “an alien language.” Another user exclaimed, “A billion dollar budget deficit and we can’t get good Wi-Fi???? Oh my god!!!!!!”

At one point, the stream had over 330 viewers, but many became fed up and left as the glitches persisted.

“I went out,” said one frustrated user. Another remarked, “Fix the stream or you’re done.”

One particularly exasperated comment read: “Oh my god…this audio is a dog.”

The technical failures overshadowed what organizers hoped would be a meaningful discussion on critical issues such as housing costs, homelessness, and infrastructure—key topics for Los Angeles voters.

Participants included City Council member Nithya Raman, community organizer Ray Huang, and nonprofit founder Adam Miller. However, two prominent figures were notably absent: Mayor Karen Bass and fellow mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt. This allowed other contenders to take center stage in an emerging race.

Yet, instead of delving into important policy discussions, the loudest sentiments of the night came from the comments section, where viewers expressed their frustrations in real time.

“Fix the city? Fix the audio!!” they demanded.
