Report Criticizes Governor Newsom’s Agenda Amid LA Riots
Amid a week of violent protests in Los Angeles, the conservative group Catholic Vote has published a report titled “Gavin Newsom Files.” This document outlines what they describe as California Governor Newsom’s “extreme” anti-Christian agenda.
Newsom, a prominent figure in the California Democratic Party and a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential election, has found himself embroiled in heated debates recently, especially regarding President Trump’s response to the riots. Newsom has criticized Trump, urging him to deploy the National Guard and Marines to quell what he labeled as “immoral” and “illegal” unrest.
Interestingly, Newsom, known for his progressive stance, has attempted to broaden his appeal with a new podcast called “This Is Gavin Newsom,” which has featured conservative voices like Charlie Kirk to present a more centrist image. Despite these efforts, the Catholic Vote’s report claims that he remains a deeply ideological figure who supports controversial issues, like transgender treatments for minors.
The Congressional Agenda of Newsom
The report asserts that while Newsom may appear to refine his public persona, he continues to advocate positions that many critics deem harmful. It states that he undermines parental rights and endorses what they refer to as the “mutilation” of children concerning gender issues. It paints a picture that he is not just a figure of California, but one whose policies could influence the nation.
Furthermore, the Catholic Vote highlights Newsom’s well-documented push for abortion rights, detailing how he has signed multiple bills that expand abortion access in California. In September 2022 alone, he signed twelve abortion-related measures, with another nine added in 2023. They even pinpoint a controversial campaign where the governor noted California’s willingness to assist women seeking abortions from other states, which has been met with strong disapproval from various religious groups.
Critics describe Newsom’s tactics as manipulative, arguing that he uses the guise of parental choice to push a radical agenda. He has been labeled as the first governor to offer sanctuary to parents seeking gender treatments for their children, promising to enforce a liberal ideology under the banner of freedom. In doing so, he has faced backlash from religious communities and some lawmakers.
In response to the riots, Catholic Vote asserts that the governor’s governance style enables chaos, specifically criticizing him for not adequately addressing issues like homelessness and public safety while pursuing national aspirations instead. Josh Mercer, Vice President of the organization, emphasized how detrimental this neglect has been for the state.
In defense of his administration, Newsom’s spokesperson dismissed the report, labeling the organization behind it as politically biased, indicating a lack of faith in their motivations and credibility.
