Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) seems to have gone all out in her campaign, choosing high-end hotels and luxury services while she rallies left-wing supporters against the wealthy during her midterm appearances.
On Friday, the New York Post reported that nearly $50,000 was spent on upscale hotel stays over the past seven months, during her efforts to support both her reelection and other Democratic candidates.
According to the Post:
Her campaign reportedly spent $47,000 across 45 hotel charges nationwide since April. This includes a $5,044 bill at The Memphian—an upscale boutique hotel in Memphis known for its spa services and elaborate, animal-themed rooftop bar, according to financial filings.
Additional expenses included bills of $1,599 and $2,694 at The Candler Hotel in Atlanta, a 4-star property with a renowned restaurant and a historic building, as noted in Federal Election Commission records.
They also incurred a $2,274 charge at The Talbott, described by the tabloid as a “charming 4-star hotel in Chicago’s trendy Gold Coast neighborhood.”
Furthermore, the report mentioned pricey stays at Thompson Central Park and Hyatt Seville NoMad in Manhattan, both categorized as luxury hotels.
The Post also indicated that these hotel expenses covered her entire team and might have included multiple nights and stays.
Known as the House’s spokesperson for “tax the rich,” Ocasio-Cortez is leveraging her popularity to support other Democratic candidates ahead of the November midterms. She is also being eyed as a potential presidential candidate for 2028.
It’s no surprise that news of her hotel expenses has drawn criticism from a Republican candidate in New York.
Anthony Constantino, a businessman aiming to fill Rep. Elise Stefanik’s seat in the 21st House District, mentioned in a previous conversation with the Post that he has invested $7 million of his own money into his campaign.
He criticized Ocasio-Cortez, suggesting she is living lavishly off donors’ contributions.
“Democrats just take donor money and indulge themselves. AOC is a con artist,” Constantino said to the outlet.
Joseph Hernandez, a GOP candidate for state comptroller, who emigrated from Cuba as a child and is now a healthcare executive, also commented on Ocasio-Cortez, labeling her a “champagne communist.”
“Having lived in an actual communist country, I saw leaders living like royalty while the rest waited in long lines for food,” he remarked. “Whether it’s donor or taxpayer money, they don’t seem to treat it as something to manage carefully.”
The Post further reported that Ocasio-Cortez, representing parts of The Bronx and Queens, has also shown a tendency for “luxury car services.”
Her campaign spent $1,791 on the Queens-based Golden Class Limo service, along with an additional $659 for Singh Car Service from Northern Virginia, according to reviewed financial documents.
Ocasio-Cortez, who maintains significant support from the left of her party, apparently has quite a financial reserve available for her campaign efforts.
She has raised over $37 million this year alone for her congressional campaign, which includes about $24 million from donors contributing less than $200.
