Convicted man Hunter Biden has reportedly been named “interim chief of staff” to President Joe Biden, replacing Jeff Zients in the role.
The Biden family, who made millions in overseas business deals while Joe Biden was in and out of office, are helping Biden continue his campaign, sources say. Said Wednesday’s Daily Beast:
His wife, Jill, and sister, Valerie, have supported him, and Democrats have looked to them as wise advisers as well as advocates. His son, Hunter, has been a frequent visitor to the White House in recent days; one well-connected Democrat, a lawyer and lobbyist, described him as “the acting chief of staff. The gatekeeper. The guy who’s energizing his dad.”
Hunter is the X-factor here, wanting to encourage his father like his late brother Beau did, and wanting to make sure the stress of a felony conviction doesn’t hinder him. Hunter being there doesn’t help Biden politically, but that’s not the issue. A Democrat who worked for Biden early in his career says simply, “Biden was there for him through his darkest times. This is more of a family thing than a political thing. It has nothing to do with his criminal case and much more to do with how the family is run.”
Hunter Participated Four people familiar with the matter spoke to NBC News on July 2 about meetings between Joe Biden and his senior aides since the president returned to the White House from Camp David.
The president’s son is also in discussions with senior White House staff, according to people familiar with the matter.
Hunter Biden is a regular attendee at the White House residence and events, but it is unusual for him to be present or around meetings his father is holding with his team, the people said, and aides to the president were surprised that he was there during the meetings.

Hunter Biden has been advising his father closely since the family gathered at Camp David over the weekend after Thursday’s debate, according to a person familiar with the matter, who said Hunter Biden has “shown up” at several meetings and calls the president has had with advisers.
“What the hell is going on?” a person familiar with the reaction from senior White House staff told NBC News.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that Hunter was there for the Fourth of July weekend, but she did not say whether Hunter had met with senior advisers.
Joel Pollack of Breitbart News reported on Hunter’s business partners’ frequent visits to the White House.
In another irony, Hunter Biden was once involved in a scheme to give overseas business partners access to the White House when his father was vice president under Obama. Now he has direct access.
It is unclear whether Hunter Biden has passed any security or background checks, nor what meetings he is attending with his father or what policy decisions are being made in their presence.
Note: Hunter Biden received a $5 million interest-free, forgivable loan (on behalf of the Biden family) from an intelligence-connected Chinese businessman in 2017 that has apparently never been repaid. Now: “Hunter has been making frequent appearances at the White House, one of which is…

A Delaware jury found Hunter guilty of three firearms charges in June and he is set to stand trial in September on tax evasion charges.
