Concerns Over the Muslim Brotherhood’s Influence in the U.S.

A recent report suggests that the Muslim Brotherhood is making significant strides in its mission to “transform Western societies from within” by embedding itself in universities and other institutions across the United States.

This analysis, released on Wednesday by the Global Anti-Semitism Policy Institute, urges the U.S. government to label the Islamist group as a terrorist organization to impede its ability to infiltrate American society.

“This marks the 50th anniversary of the Brotherhood’s century-long plan to undermine democracy through infiltration of key institutions in the U.S. and other Western nations,” remarked ISGAP Director Dr. Charles Asher Small.

According to the report, this isn’t merely a political movement; it represents a transnational ideological endeavor aimed at undermining Western institutions while also finding ways to integrate within them.

The 200-page document highlights the group’s so-called “civilization jihad” strategy, which seeks to influence college campuses, educational institutions, and governmental bodies.

Titled “The Muslim Brotherhood’s Strategic Entryism into Western Societies: A Systematic Analysis,” the report emphasizes that university settings are crucial battlegrounds for the group’s initiatives.

It points out that the Islamic Student Association, which has branches at over 600 institutions, including Columbia University and New York University, plays a key role in shaping campus dynamics.

Additionally, the report suggests that the Palestinian Justice Students group, which aligns with the Islamic Student Association, has been notably effective in forwarding the Brotherhood’s objectives concerning the Israeli-Hamas conflict.

ISGAP is advocating for the U.S. government to label the Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization as an initial step to eliminate its influence.

This report comes in the wake of Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s recent formal designation of the Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations as foreign terrorist organizations.

Founded nearly a century ago in Egypt, the Brotherhood is a transnational Sunni Islamist group, and while some leaders claim to have renounced violence in favor of establishing Islamic rule through elections, its historical associations raise concerns about potential violent activities.
