Labor Secretary Resigns Amid Scandals
The White House has reportedly sidelined Labor Secretary Lori Chavez Delemer for several months prior to her resignation.
Stephen Chan, a White House official, confirmed on Monday that Chavez Delemer is stepping down, following an investigation related to allegations of corruption.
Her time in office has been marked by various controversies. Reports indicate she faced accusations involving an affair with a member of her security team and instances of inappropriate conduct, including drinking while on duty. Several individuals within the agency have resigned amid ongoing internal scrutiny.
According to Bloomberg Law, her resignation was anticipated as her visibility within the government had diminished considerably. Just last week, for instance, she was noticeably absent from a meeting that President Trump had with key labor leaders, including Teamsters President Sean O’Brien.
O’Brien mentioned that Chavez Delemer wasn’t even brought up during the meeting and that he decided not to defend her, despite having been one of her strongest supporters in the past.
Reports from former and current officials indicate that she has been increasingly isolated due to an inspector general investigation into numerous allegations—ranging from travel fraud to inappropriate relationships with staff. Many employees have sought to leave as the situation worsened.
There are claims from her previous director asserting that she was unfairly terminated as a result of an internal smear campaign. Additionally, her husband was removed from the Department of Labor headquarters amid allegations of inappropriate conduct with an employee.
Chavez Delemer’s situation seemed dire as texts surfaced that reportedly contained inappropriate messages from her husband to a female staff member.
In response to these allegations, Chavez Delemer strongly denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the claims against her and her family were unfounded and motivated by external influences aiming to undermine her position within the administration.
