Reporter Confronts Jim Acosta to Spar Outside His Hotel

Acosta and Tracy’s Tense Exchange Outside Hotel

Independent journalist Michael Tracy had a heated moment with former CNN host Jim Acosta outside a hotel in Washington, D.C., early Sunday morning. Tracy called Acosta out, suggesting they settle things outside.

Acosta claimed that Tracy was harassing Miami Herald reporter Julie K. Brown, known for her investigative work uncovering the Jeffrey Epstein child sex trafficking case. Tracy refuted this, alleging that Acosta threatened him during a previous Substack afterparty associated with the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

In a series of posts, Tracy expressed his frustration, saying things like, “We don’t know what happened to Trump tonight yet, Jim just want you to know.” He went on to challenge Acosta directly, insisting he was waiting for him outside the Hampton Inn.

“Jim, I’m literally waiting for you right now, you son of a bitch,” Tracy tweeted.

Acosta defended himself, saying he intervened on Brown’s behalf when he witnessed Tracy’s actions at the Substack party. Acosta labeled Tracy’s behavior as bullying and stood by his decision to help remove Brown from Tracy’s vicinity.

Another journalist, Tara Palmieri, captured a moment where security was seen confronting Tracy at an event that honored Epstein’s victim, Virginia Giuffre, who tragically took her own life in 2025. Palmieri questioned Tracy’s presence at the memorial, indicating that security was trying to eject him.

Before issuing his challenge, Tracy had referred to Brown as a “scumbag,” accusing her of misleading statements regarding his character. He insisted that he had not harassed her as claimed.

“No one is ‘harassing’ you, liar,” Tracy stated, criticizing Brown’s credibility and insinuating that she fabricated quotes attributed to him.

No immediate comments were provided by Acosta, Tracy, or Brown when approached for their perspectives on the incidents.

This tension is not new for Tracy, who previously mentioned a “moral panic” following Epstein’s death, likening it to the allegations of collusion during Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. He explained the complexities and harsh judgments surrounding stories related to pedophilia, noting societal perceptions often skew towards the most depraved interpretations.
