On Monday, a reporter from Zero Hedge questioned President Donald Trump about the possibility of an investigation into the destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines in 2022. The pipelines, Nord Stream 1 and 2, had become inoperative by September 26, 2022, drawing extensive criticism from Russia. Trump, who has previously doubted Russia’s involvement, was asked about launching an investigation during an event where he announced the 2027 NFL Draft’s location at the National Mall.
“You could probably find someone to tell you without spending money on an investigation,” Trump remarked. “Many people likely have an idea about who caused the explosion. I wouldn’t have let it happen. When Biden took office, he allowed it to proceed.”
During his presidency, Trump had been against the completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which the Biden administration allowed to be finalized, going online in September 2021. The pipeline was later halted on February 24, 2022, following the invasion of Ukraine.
Trump commented on the current situation, noting the decline in oil prices. “I think both sides want to settle down. Ukraine is losing 5,000 soldiers weekly. Meanwhile, we’re here discussing football.” He expressed concern over the ongoing conflict, emphasizing the toll it has taken, and mentioned a recent three-day ceasefire announced by President Putin, reflecting on the lack of dialogue between Putin and former President Trump during his last three years in office.
