CBS News journalist Scott McFarlane announced on Monday that he will be joining the left-leaning media organization Meidas Touch. Founded in 2020, Meidas Touch started as a political action committee focused on critiquing former President Donald Trump, positioning itself quite differently from conventional journalism.
With McFarlane’s departure from CBS, many conservatives are pointing out this trend as another example of what they perceive as a liberal bias in mainstream news outlets.
This isn’t an isolated incident. McFarlane isn’t the first established journalist to express leftist views after leaving traditional corporate media. Other notable figures include:
Terry Moran
After nearly 28 years with ABC News, Terry Moran was let go for social media posts that targeted Trump and his administration. He had previously interviewed Trump in the Oval Office, a role that seems unlikely for someone who publicly criticized the president.
Just weeks after his firing, Moran set up a Substack channel where he expressed that corporate media was failing to represent the American public’s interests, revealing his own partisan stance against Trump and his allies.
Katie Couric
Couric, known for her long tenure as a co-host on NBC’s “Today” and anchor on “CBS Evening News,” has shifted away from traditional news reporting. In recent years, she has openly shared her political opinions, even suggesting that Trump supporters needed “deprogramming” after the events of January 6.
Reflecting on her career, Couric mentioned feeling liberated, stating that she no longer feels the need to cater to a wide audience. She emphasized her strong beliefs in reproductive rights and gun control, citing alarming statistics to support her views.
Don Lemon
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon was known for his outspoken views while hosting prime-time segments. He faced backlash for controversial comments, including comparisons of Trump supporters to KKK members, which ultimately led to his exit from CNN after 17 years.
Now, as an independent journalist, he has fully embraced his liberal perspective, often voicing strong anti-Trump sentiments. Recently, he found himself embroiled in legal issues related to a protest, which he claims was a journalistic endeavor.
Jim Acosta
Jim Acosta served as CNN’s White House correspondent during Trump’s presidency and was frequently criticized for his perceived bias. After leaving CNN, he spoke about the importance of truth in journalism and now hosts a YouTube show that regularly features critics of Trump.
His humor has sometimes landed him in trouble; for instance, he faced backlash over a joke that referenced the burial site of Trump’s late ex-wife. The White House condemned him for his comments, calling him a “disgraceful human being.”
