Georgia Special Senate Election Results
Republican candidates are gaining momentum following expressions of confidence from Georgia Democrats regarding a special state Senate election that took place on Tuesday.
In District 21, a predominantly Republican area, Jason Dickerson triumphed over Democrat Debra Sigre in the special election.
“The conservatives in the 21st district have sent a clear signal. Liberal ideologies have no place here,” Dickerson stated after his victory.
He won by a margin of slightly over 7,000 votes, securing nearly 62% of the overall total.
In a previous special election in August, Sigre performed better than expected, leading to the need for a runoff election on September 23rd.
Sigre’s initial strong performance attracted attention to this typically conservative state Senate race, which even prompted DNC chair Ken Martin to visit Georgia to campaign alongside her, according to reports.
“We are incredibly proud of our campaign and grateful to all the volunteers who devoted their time to fight for a better Georgia,” Sigre remarked in a statement.
Meanwhile, Dickerson emphasized the message from the conservatives in District 21, highlighting their commitment to advocating for American values, aiming to position the state as an ideal place for families to live and work.
Georgia GOP Chairman Josh McConne celebrated the continued hold of Republican seats, asserting, “We anticipated this election and ramped up our efforts accordingly. Engaging with voters, both online and in person, really made a difference.”
President Trump had earlier appointed Brandon Beach, the incumbent state senator, to a position at the US Accounting Office, leaving behind the seat Dickerson has now secured.
Dickerson’s win solidifies the Republican majority in the Georgia Senate, which has seen a slight decrease since 2018.
